A Korean first birthday
In Korea, a baby's first birthday is called a Dol (돌), and families have marked it with a feast since the Joseon era. It celebrates a healthy first year and wishes the baby a long, bright life.
한복
Luna will wear a hanbok, the traditional dress for a first birthday, finished with a rainbow norigae (노리개), the tasseled charm worn on hanbok for good fortune.
돌상
A table piled high with rainbow and red bean rice cakes and fruit. Each one carries a wish for her health, harmony and long life.
돌잡이
The highlight of the day. Luna is set before a row of objects, and the first one she grabs is said to foretell her future.
On Luna's doljabi table
Luna will reach for one of these eight at the party. Each item will have its own jar: before she chooses, cast your vote by dropping it into the jar of the item you think she'll pick. Once Luna makes her choice, we'll draw three winners from that item's jar.
